Betty J. Eggers

Betty Jean Eggers (Perry-Gray), aged 81, passed away on July 30, 2024, in her hometown of Columbus, Indiana. Born on December 20, 1942, in Columbus, Betty was known for her passionate engagement in various hobbies, including sewing, bowling, and cherishing moments with her family. She was particularly supportive of her children and grandchildren, always present at their activities and offering her encouragement and support.

Betty was born to Charles Hubert and Mary Louise (Fivecoat) Perry. Betty had three siblings, Max (Monaei) Perry, Margaret “Peggy” (Tom) Blades, and Barbara (David) Sage.

Betty married Hugh Edward Gray October 5, 1963. Surviving are their children, Hugh Gray II, Chris (Mica) Gray, William (Lisa) Gray, Mary Beth (Darin) Thomas, Pam (Scott) Ramey, Diana Eggers, Doug (Kris) Eggers . Together they shared ten grandchildren that were cherished- Ashley (Clint) Million, Angela (Nathan) Ross, Ian (Maria) Gray, Austin Gray, Jordan (Jerracah) Gray, Jacob (Mayzee) Thomas, Peyton (Sam) Gray, Emily Thomas, Zach Thomas, and Christian (Madi) Gray, Corey Story, Taylor (Lance) Gourley, Derek (Shelby) Eggers, Dylan (Vivian) Eggers, Shelby Reed, Kyle Ramey and ten great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Hugh, passed away in 2002.

Betty was blessed to reconnect with her high school sweetheart after the loss of her first husband. Betty married Jack Eggers on October 14, 2008. Betty was blessed to have Jack by her side the remainder of her life. His love and support during her hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer was unwavering. Jack shared a wonderful family with Betty.

Betty was proceeded in death by her loving parents, her first husband, her brother, and her first born son.

In lieu of flowers, Betty’s wishes were for any gifts to be donated to Pancreatic Cancer Research. In honor of Betty’s wishes, cremation is planned and there will be a private graveside service at Garland Brook Cemetery with Pastor Eli Johnson officiating. There will be a gathering after the service to celebrate a life richly lived and dearly cherished by her family and community.
