Virginia Williams

ANDERSON, FORMERLY OF COLUMBUS

Virginia Williams, 98, formerly of Columbus, passed away July 31, 2024, at Northview Health and Living in Anderson, Indiana.

She was born April 30, 1926. Her parents were Clifford and Tillean Kyte Folger. She had one sister, Evelyn.

In high school Virginia met the love of her life, Jim Williams. She graduated from Columbus High School (which is now Central Middle School) in 1943.

After high school, she attended Hanover College where she majored in Business and French and was also a proud member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

In 1948, she married Jim. Soon after they moved to a farm near Grammer and lived there until 1996, when they moved to Columbus.

Over the years Virginia worked at Reeves Pulley, Cummins, and First National Bank. Once she was even a substitute P.E. teacher at Rockcreek School.

Jim and Virginia had two daughters, Karen and Beverly.

They loved to travel and took many trips in the U.S. and Canada. Their favorite places to visit was the Southwest where they spent a winter in Arizona, and the Gulf Coast of Florida where Virginia’s sister Evelyn lived.

Also, Virginia loved to go anywhere that had a lighthouse.

Most of her life, Virginia attended Burnsville Christian Church, where she made many friends and had many fond memories.

Virginia’s favorite hobbies were playing euchre and watching I.U. basketball. She was a big fan of Bobby Knight. She and Jim took ballroom dance lessons and they could often be seen dancing in the kitchen.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Jim; her daughter, Beverly Coleman; and her sister, Evelyn Needham.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen Jefferson (James); grandchildren, Brent Mason, Brooke Lloyd (Tyler), Spencer Coleman (Chelsea), Evan Coleman (Allison); sister-in-law, Sarah Williams; and great grandchildren, Shaun, Mason, Benjamin and John.

The funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Reverend Marcus D. Speer officiating.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m. till time of service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
