City officials say phones are down across all municipal buildings, cut fiber line disrupting service

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The city of Columbus is currently experiencing a disruption affecting all phone lines across its municipal buildings.

City officials said earlier today Smithville reported that one of its fiber lines had been cut that provides service to the city and several other businesses in the area. This unforeseen technical issue has resulted in the temporary inability to make or receive calls to the public.

City officials are actively working with telecommunications providers to resolve the
disruption. In the interim, residents are encouraged to utilize alternative communication
methods. Email correspondence and the city’s official website will remain fully
