Columbus’ Michael Calvin won the 2014 Upland Brewing Company UpCup competition in Bloomington with his Good Miss Mosaic beer. The win earned him an entry into the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colo. in October.

Lydia Bohn’s piano students presented a recital, titled “From Bach to Boogie,” at the Asbury United Methodist Church. Students participating were Alexa Hicks, Chelsea Perry, Maria Riddle, Anthea McGrew, Drew Shafran, Todd Iler, Justin Wilhite, Nicole Sullivan, Luke Acton, Brandi Barthlow, Jenna Shymkus, Nichole Funkey, Daniel McElroy, Lisa DeJulio, Bethany Casey, Laura Elgar, Judi Cox and Jessica Shafran.

The license for 104.9 FM, a new Columbus radio station, was approved by the Federal Communications Commission and the Bartholomew County Broadcasting Company. The station’s 300-foot broadcast tower was set to be built on Carr Hill Road west of Columbus, near the WCSI radio tower.
