The Columbus East girls golf team shot a team score of 180 at Otter Creek to win the three-team meet against Whiteland (216) and Greenfield-Central (226). East senior Abby Frazier and sophomore Nicole Bodi each shot 44 to tie for medalist honors.

Bartholomew County 4-H Fair Queen Annie Fiesbeck paraded her Hampton gilt during the annual 4-H swine show at the Indiana State Fair. Fiesbeck had previously worked on 4-H projects including arts and crafts, flowers, food, consumer clothing and child development.
1974
Alvin Toffler, author of “Future Shock,” was the first visiting writer for the 1974-75 Distinguished Visitors series. Others set to visit Columbus during the series included Maya Angelou, Joseph Heller and Marvin Kalb.
