Looking Back – Aug. 16

2014

Donner Aquatic Center ended its 2014 season with the End of Summer Doggie Swim and Bark in the Park. Around 150 dogs attended the events, which were conducted in cooperation with Columbus Animal Control and Columbus Animal Rescue Effort.

1999

Goodyear’s Stars and Stripes blimp landed in a soybean field near Columbus Municipal Airport, to the awe of several hundred onlookers who showed up to watch the landing. The 192-foot airship landed in Columbus on its way from Tennessee to Chicago.

1974

Two Columbus men had the top two scores in the third round of the Indiana Open Golf Tournament at the Harbour Trees Country Club in Noblesville. The top score went to former Harrison Lakes County Club pro Mal McMullen, and the second best was carded by current head pro Tony Clecak.
