Alma Phillips

INDIANAPOLIS

Alma Phillips, 91, of Indianapolis, died at 5:40 p.m. on August 14, 2024, at Greenwood Meadows.

Alma was born May 31, 1933, in Monticello, KY, the daughter of Thomas Bell and Ruth (Adair) Bell. She married Herbert Phillips on June 4, 1949.

Alma dedicated three decades to Western Electric, retiring in 1984 after starting her career there in 1954. She called both Indianapolis and Brown County home over the years. Her love for people often found its expression in the kitchen; Alma enjoyed canning the bounty of her garden and ensuring that no one left her home hungry. Alongside her husband Herbert, she enjoyed shopping, auctions, and flea markets.

The funeral will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, with Chaplin Mike Mercer officiating. Calling will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice.

Survivors include son, Garry (Carol) Phillips of Indianapolis; granddaughters, Caron Kiefer and Sara Norris; great-grandchildren, Brandon Barger, Noah Keifer, Jacob Phillips, Jordon Norris, Harrison Phillips, and Allison Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ruth Bell; husband, Herbert Phillips; brother, Thomas Bell; sisters, Nadine Goode and Christine Justice; and great-grandson, Austin Norris.

Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
