East girls take second; CC boys, SD girls sixth at Moores Hill

AURORA — The Columbus East girls opened the cross-country season Saturday with a runner-up finish in South Dearborn’s Moores Hill Invitational, while the Columbus Christian boys and South Decatur girls each finished sixth.

South Dearborn eon the girls meet with 46 points. East and Switzerland County each finished with 58, but the Olympians won the tiebreaker with the faster sixth runner.

Madison Swartzentruber led East with a fifth-place finish in 23 minutes, 55.39 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Amelia Fay took seventh in 24:09.21, while Ainslee Shaw was 13th (25:09.57), Delaney Rogers 17th (25:23.33), Abby Collins 22nd (27:15.61), Elizabeth Sztaba 24th (27:20.50) and Daphne May 25th (27:59.21).

Kate Schoettmer finished 16th in 25:22.84 to lead South Decatur. Summer Masters took 36th in 29:47.03, while Bri Benefiel was 37th (29:55.11), Brooklyn Ortman 43rd (33:47.74) and Andrea Brogan 46th (35:53.31).

Columbus Christian had one girls runner. Elizabeth Schlaudroff finished 26th in 28:05.74.

Austin won the boys meet with 34 points. Columbus Christian scored 158, led by a 30th-place finish from Ben Halsey in 22:26.37. Justin Schlaudroff took 37th in 24:46.16, while Trae Short was 39th (25:14.66), Roman Sanchez 47th (29:39.38) and Zander Stephens 48th (30:01.53).

South Decatur had one boys runner. Nicholas Hunter finished eighth in 19:17.09, while
