Jackson County grower named River-Friendly Farmer

Troy Hehman of Hehman Grain Farms, Inc., Seymour, was honored as a River-Friendly Farmer on Aug. 7 at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis.

The Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (IASWCD) recognized Hehman and other farmers who use best management practices like cover crops and filter strips. These efforts enhance soil health and prevent erosion, protecting Indiana’s waterways.

Hehman, a third-generation farmer, was nominated for the award by the Jackson County Soil & Water Conservation District. He was one of 42 recipients of the 2024 Indiana River-Friendly Farmer awards. A complete list is available at iaswcd.org.
