The third annual Mayor’s Motorcycle Ride began at City Hall, with motorcycles flowing onto Second Street to the tune of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” All proceeds from the event went toward the annual Firemen’s Cheer Fund.

1999

Arvin Industries was ranked among Industry Week’s 100 Best-Managed Companies of 1999. Other companies ranked included Eli Lilly, Toyota Motor Co. and Xerox Corp.

1974

Meredith L. Thompson, vocational director of the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp., was elected president of the Indiana Council of Vocational Administrators. Thompson was elected at a summer vocational conference in Indianapolis, where another Columbus woman, Ina Mosely, received an award of merit for her time as a business education teacher at Columbus North High School.
