Ron Sears, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 6:52 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility at the age of 81.
Ron was born in Bedford, Indiana, December 22, 1942, the son of Robert and Mary Lavender Sears. Ron married Shirley Britton October 9, 1982; she survives.
Ron retired from Cummins Engine Company after 32 years of service. After his retirement, Ron enjoyed working as a valet at Columbus Regional Hospital. Ron loved to fish and go camping and he always took pride in his immaculate yard.
Ron is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Shirley; children, Pam Strahl, Patty (Tip) Dodge, Brian (Cathy) Sears and Joe (Dawn) Sears; stepchildren, Cindy (Alan) Fillenworth, Kelly (Mark) Wampler and Mike (Heather) Garrett; sister, Mary Faith (Brian) Jones; brother, Daryl Sears; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Sears; step-son, Richard Garrett; sister, Cheryl and a brother, Bob Sears.
The funeral service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Virgil Clotfelter will officiate. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 3:30 p.m. until service time Monday.
In keeping with Ron’s wishes, cremation will take place following the funeral service and inurnment will be at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Ron may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society, 4415 East 200 South, Columbus, Indiana 47201 or cards are available at the funeral home.
