Shelby County to host 2024 Indiana Barn Foundation tour

Shelby County will host the 2024 Indiana Barn Foundation tour on Saturday, Sept. 14, with a focus on preserving a landmark polygon-shaped barn near Waldron.

A self-guided driving tour of historic barns facilitated by the Shelby County Tourism and Visitors Bureau will include this a learning lab at the featured structure, the Rudicel-Montgomery Polygonal Barn, located near the intersection of Shelby County roads 700S and 400E.

According to the foundation, “Attendees will be able to learn the results of the recently completed assessment and laser scanning by Trillum Dell/Firmitas and better understand what it will take to save this community landmark.”

Listed on the National Reigster of Historic Places, the 1910 barn, also known as the George Rudicel Polygonal Barn, is a unique 12-sided structure.

Also on the barn tour will be the the Meltzer Farm, which includes an English barn, sawmill barn, log buildings, 1875 schoolhouse and pumpkin patch. Several additional privately owned barns will be on the tour at farms that include a flower farm, working cattle farms and more.

The Indiana Barn Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and rehabilitate landmark barns in the Hoosier State.
