Brownstown Speedway hosted Fan Appreciation Night on Aug. 17. There were five racing divisions on hand for the evening.

Steve Peeden of Martinsville was victorious in the P3 Graphix Indiana Late Model Series Pro Late Model feature. Chad Stapleton jumped to the early lead and led the first 15 laps. On a restart after a Lap 15 caution, Peeden took over the lead and never looked back. This was Peeden’s third ILMS win of 2024. Stapleton, Tyler Cain, Zachary Stalker and Skyller Lewis completed the top five.

Tucker Chastain of Bedford returned to Victory Lane in Pewter Hall Super Stocks for the fifth time this year. Chastain led all 20 laps of the feature. Greg Amick challenged Chastain in the closing laps of the event, puling alongside Chastain, but Chastain never gave up the lead. Amick ran second, followed by Jamey Wilson, Isaiah Sasser and Blake Hull.

Brent McMillan led all 20 laps in Crossroads Truck Equipment Pure Stocks, with Ross Smith of Columbus following in second. After McMillan took the checkers, he lost a large chunk of lead weight from his car while exiting the track. McMillan failed to make minimum weight at the scales after the event, and Smith was awarded the win. This was Smith’s first-ever Brownstown win. Rounding out the top five were A.J. Wilson, Preston Carr, Josh Turner and Tommy Fleenor.

Todd Cain of Columbus picked up his second win of the year in Crown Vic feature action. Cain was never really challenged, leading all 20 caution-free laps for the win. Matt Cranmer, Anthony Finley, Dustin Cross and Ryan Woods trailed at the checkers.

It was No. 8 for Michael Brewer of North Vernon in Hornet division feature wins for the year. Brewer led all 20 laps for the victory. Curtis Roccia tried to reel Brewer in, but could not get close enough to make a move on Brewer. Roccia finished second, followed by Preston Righthouse, Jeremy Shemwell and Matt Miller.

Bilbee wins Gaines Memorial

Nick Bilbee won the Dick Gaines Memorial for sprint cars on Aug. 17 at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Luke Hall was second, followed by Shawn Westerfeld, Austin Nigh and Joss Moffatt. Other winners were Cordell Moore (hornets), Troy Clark (crown vics), Brandon Gibson Jr. (pure stocks) and Eric Shepherd Jr. (B-mods).

Bloomquist passes away

Scott Bloomquist, one the most famous dirt late model racers of all-time, passed away from a plane crash on Aug. 16 in Mooresburg, Tennessee. He was 60 years old.

Bloomquist was seven-time winner of the Jackson 100 at the Brownstown Speedway, which is the most of any driver the race’s history, dating back to the inaugural event in 1980. Bloomquist collected a total of 13 wins at Brownstown, which ties him with C.J. Rayburn and Mark Barber on the late model all-time win list.

Bloomquist was also an eight-time Dirt Late Model Dream winner and a four-time World 100 victor at Eldora Speedway. He had more crown jewel victories in his career than any other driver in dirt late model racing history. He won 607 races during his career, which spanned from 1980 to 2024.
