Cooling stations open amid soaring heat

Bartholomew County officials are urging residents to stay cool, drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun today as heat index values are expected to again rise into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees.

These cooling stations also are open and available today to anyone needing a break from the heat:

  • Donner Center at Donner Park, 739 22nd St., Columbus, until 5 p.m.
  • Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St., Columbus, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Bartholomew County Public Library, 635 Harrison St., Hope, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Officials said they will monitor the weather to determine if dates for cooling stations need to be extended.
