Molly Connor replaced Aida Ramirez as Columbus’ deputy director of the Human Rights Commission. Connor graduated from Hanover College with a double major in English and political science and interned with the Volunteer Lawyers Project in Cincinnati.

1999

Beanie Babies manufacturer Ty announced that it would retire the toys at the end of the year, putting an almost abrupt end to the Beanie Baby craze. Stores across the country, including Kirlin’s Hallmark Gold Crown at FairOaks Mall, reported that the toys now sat on shelves instead of being bought immediately.

1974

Major Noel F. Widdifield, 33, nephew of Columbus resident Mrs. Merrill K. Johnson, navigated a record-breaking flight from New York to London in less than two hours.
