Beth Dewar

NORTH VERNON

Beth Dewar, 70, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, after a long illness.

She was born July 12, 1954, in Somerset, Kentucky, the daughter of Henry B. and Olive G. Fugate. She graduated from Jennings County High School in 1972. She grew up in North Vernon and remained there for most of her life. She was previously married to Jim Carpenter and shares two daughters, Amy and Andrea. In 1989, she married her beloved Kenneth Dewar, Sr. who passed in 2021.

Beth worked for Thrive Alliance until her retirement. She was dedicated to her clients, their families and her colleagues. Beth was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church for many years. She volunteered for decades as a Poll worker for Lovett Township and was involved with the Democratic Party of Jennings County. Beth loved to travel and was especially fond of swimming and boating. She loved “lake days” floating, swimming and grilling with family and friends. Beth was a lifelong fan of University of Kentucky basketball.

She is survived by her children, Amy Carpenter of Vancouver, Washington, and Andrea (Rusty Stovall) Carpenter of Columbus, Indiana; stepchildren, Kenneth “Dale” (Maggie) Dewar, Jr. of Nebraska, Indiana and Becky (Larry) Jones of London, Kentucky; brother, Grey (Katie Engle) Fugate of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Mackinnen, Merrick and Raegan; two great-grandchildren, Katalaya and Kamden; three step-grandchildren, Chasity, Justin and Ashley; and three step-great grandchildren, Rhyder, Eli and Harper; who will all miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Robin Fugate; and sister, Kim Suzanne Sanders.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. A private family burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
