He left this earth on September 6, 2024, surrounded by loved ones and family at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Bobby was born January 10, 1952 and raised in Edinburgh, Indiana by his parents, Roy C. and Virginia Burton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Nathan Burton; father, Roy C. Burton; mother, Virginia Burton, and sister, Connie Burton.

Bobby is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Tammy; sons, Chris (Dominee) Burton, Brandon (Tonya) Burton, and daughter, Courtney (Tyler) Payton. Bobby was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Nash and Knox Burton, Hudson and Holden Hembree, Gus Burton, Lincoln and Royce Burton, Haylee and Kenzie Acton, and Chandler Payton.

Bobby’s smile, jokes, charm, and light conversation will be missed by all.

Bobby married his one true love, Tammy (Haddad) Burton, on April 8, 1978. Over the years they built an amazing life together, filled with love and laughter. Bobby loved to entertain friends and family at their houseboat on Dale Hollow Lake. He enjoyed relaxing at the family cabin riding razors and rangers in the woods with loved ones. He was always cleaning the family homes, whether it was leaf blowing or power washing, in preparation of gatherings with family and friends.

As he used to say he “wanted everything to be READY.”

In 2014, after 36 years of leadership, Bobby retired from Columbus Container Inc. to spend more time with his friends and family. He enjoyed spending every minute he could with his grandchildren. Whether it be taking them for donuts on the way to school or watching their sporting events (where he’d often be coaching from the sidelines), his grandchildren brought him an immense amount of joy!

In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place and a memorial service honoring Bobby’s life will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Barkes Weaver and Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Ryan Hazen officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Bobby’s memory are asked to donate to the American Cancer Center or American Heart Association. Your donations will serve as a testament to Bobby’s wonderful life, reflecting the impact he had on those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we grapple with the loss of his physical presence, we find solace in knowing that his spirit lives on through the love he instilled in his family and friends.
