Prep sports notebook: North, East, Hauser to host sectional basketball

Bartholomew County basketball fans won’t have to travel far for sectional games this winter after host sites for the winter sports were assigned at the latest IHSAA executive committee meeting.

In girls basketball, Columbus North is hosting a five-team Class 4A sectional that includes Columbus East, East Central, Franklin and Whiteland. Hauser is hosting an eight-team Class A sectional that includes Shawe Memorial, Crothersville, Rising Sun, Jac-Cen-Del, Milan, Trinity Lutheran and Oldenburg Academy.

In boys basketball, Columbus East is hosting a five-team Class 4A sectional that includes Columbus North, East Central, Franklin and Whiteland. Milan is hosting an eight-team Class A sectional that includes Hauser, Shawe Memorial, Crothersville, Rising Sun, Jac-Cen-Del, Trinity Lutheran and Oldenburg Academy.

In girls swimming, Columbus North is hosting a sectional that includes Columbus East. In boys swimming, East Central is hosting a sectional that includes Columbus North and Columbus East.

Columbus East and Columbus North will be in a wrestling sectional at Jennings County.

The gymnatics sectional hosts will be determined at a later date.

Spring sports sectional alignments determined

In case you missed it, The IHSAA also approved the new sectional alignments for the baseball and softball season next spring.

Columbus East and Columbus North will be in a Class 4A sectional with Whiteland, Franklin and East Central for both the baseball and softball sectional.

Hauser will be in a Class A sectional with Crothersville, Jac-Cen-Del, Milan, Oldenburg Academy, Rising Sun, Shawe Memorial and Trinity Lutheran for both the baseball and softball sectional.

The hosts for each sectional will be determined at a later date.

East girls soccer time changed

The Columbus East girls soccer contest on Saturday against Hoosier Hills Conference opponent Floyd Central has been moved up to a 4 p.m. varsity start. The JV will play a half following the varsity contest.
