Roger Wayne Scroggins

NORTH VERNON

Roger Wayne Scroggins, 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:02 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born July 2, 1946, in North Vernon, he was the son of the late Alfred and Naomi (Dowell) Scroggins. He married Francis Elizabeth “Beth” Carson on April 17, 1965, at the First Christian Church in North Vernon; she survives.

Roger was a 1964 graduate of North Vernon High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Cummins Engine Company for 20 years going to work there in 1964, he had also worked at LNP Engineering Plastics Inc in Columbus, Navistar in Indianapolis, Fed Ex at the Indianapolis Airport and Biehle Electric. He was a member of Jennings Church of Christ in North Vernon where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Treasurer. Roger helped start the Burnt Pines Church of Christ. He enjoyed playing church league softball, fishing, hunting, golfing, mushroom hunting, camping, traveling, and being outside. Roger also enjoyed family time and doing family genealogy, reading, motorcycles and custom cars. He had a great sense of humor.

Surviving with his wife Beth, are his son, Richard “Rick” (Alma) Scroggins of El Paso, Texas; his daughter, Michele (Mike) Followell of Paris Crossing; brothers, Robert (Helen) Scroggins and Raymond (Joyce) Scroggins, both of Columbus and Ivan (Barbara) Scroggins of Franklin; sister, Carol (Tom) Walp of Columbus; sister-in-law, Margaret “Peg” Scroggins of North Vernon; grandchildren, Seth (Shana) Richardson, Aaron (Aeriel) Richardson, and Evan Richardson, all of Columbus, and Jose Scroggins of El Paso, Texas; step-grandchildren, Javier Romero of Arizona and Alma Celia Romero of El Paso, Texas; great-grandchildren, Claire and Madison Richardson, both of Columbus and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Joseph Scroggins.

In keeping with Roger and his family’s wishes cremation is planned with a celebration of life to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Jennings Church of Christ, 1200 N. Madison Ave, North Vernon, Indiana 47265 with the Rev. Marcus Speer officiating. The visitation for family and friend will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the church.

Memorials may be made in honor of Roger through the funeral home to the Jennings Church of Christ Missions for shoeboxes.
