3A No. 8 North upsets 3A No. 4 Carmel

Despite playing one man down to begin the second half and two men down for the final 13 minutes Friday night, 3A No. 8 Columbus North pulled out a 2-0 boys soccer upset against Class 3A No. 4 Carmel.

The Bull Dogs (7-2-1) got on the board in the 20th minute on a goal by Parker Gribbins off an assist from Mathiang Kak. Kak added a penalty kick in the 33rd minute, but then received a red card just before halftime.

North’s Angel Espejel was given a second yellow card in the 67th minute, and the Bull Dogs played the final 13 minutes with nine players.

The Greyhounds outshot the Bull Dogs 23-8, putting eight shots on goal to North’s four. Juan Jose Salcedo Calderon recorded eight saves.
