North teams take second; Panthers, Eagles compete at Brown County

NASHVILLE — Columbus North’s third-ranked boys and fifth-ranked girls cross-country both finished second in the Elite Divisions Saturday in Brown County’s Eagle Classic.

Top-ranked Brownsburg won the boys meet with 48 points to 75 for the Bull Dogs, 114 for No. 6 Carmel and 137 for No. 5 Bloomington North.

Top-ranked Carmel won the girls meet with 59 points to 99 for Columbus North, 129 for No. 10 Zionsville and 132 for Louisville Dupont Manual.

Neal White led the Bull Dog boys with a second-place finish in 15 minutes, 21.3 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles), just two-tenths of a second behind winner Calvin Seitz of Jasper. Jennings County’s Kraedyn Young took fifth in 15:38.5.

Columbus North’s Jace Works and Logan Vanzant finished 16th and 17th in 15:53.5 and 15:54.6. Evan Bense took 22nd in 16:04.0, while Sam Steinmetz was 33rd (16:14.1), Jonny Klaus 39th (16:18.8), Draven Martinez 40th (16:18.9), Cole Stevens 75th (16:57.4) and Delton Sluder 135th (18:11.2).

Carys Glyn-Jones led the Bull Dog girls with a third-place finish in 18:17.5. Kyleigh Wolf took 12th in 18:52.8, while Tristan Works was 20th (19:07.6), Ainsley Sherlock 26th (19:21.8), Macy Eaton 40th (19:43.7), Emma Lowther 49th (19:54.8), Adira Sluder 58th (20:05.8), Rendy Zhong 69th (20:15.2), Kodi Smith 83rd (20:36.9) and Wendy Zhong 111th (21:18.3).

Meanwhile, Jennings finished seventh with 169 points in the AA Boys race. Franklin won with 59. Cash Summers, Dawson Leak and Brock Maschino finished 30th, 31st and 32nd in 17:50.1, 17:51.0 and 17:51.3 to lead the Panthers; while Maxwell Rodriguez took 44th (18:16.2) and Zachary Wahlman was 46th (18:18.3).

Jennings finished 12th with 252 points in the AA Girls race. Jasper won with 71. Alana Watts led the Panthers with a 24th-place finish in 21:46.0, while Shelby Allen was 36th (22:25.6), Haley Vogel 44th (22:44.4), Isla Stevens 65th (23:23.5) and Avery Willhite 83rd (24:02.7).

Brown County finished eighth in the Class A boys race with 204 points. Oak Hill won with 99. Aden Skaggs led Brown County with a 20th-place finish in 18:33.7, while Kai Koester was 22nd (18:42.1), Nathan Cumberledge 40th (19:37.4), Jacob Schwein 83rd (20:51.6) and Xavier Himebaugh 78th (21:25.8).

The Eagles finished ninth in the Class A girls race with 195 points. Barr-Reeve won with 59. Brown County’s Sadie Hiatt and Izzy Miller took 31st and 32nd in 23:40.1 and 23:40.2, while Nora Mofield was 51st (24:50.5), Della Hitchcock 72nd (25:57.5) and Michaela Smith 85th (27:12.7).

Trinity Lutheran had three runners. Cheyenne Campbell finished 29th in 23:29.2, Elizabeth Downey took 70th in 25:54.6 and Emma Mellencamp was 93rd in 28:35.5.
