Letter: If you enjoy an event, take a minute to say ‘Thank you’

Thank yous count! Make it a point to say thank you!

This came across my mind about a week ago as I thanked a few classic car owners on their Facebook page from out of town who took the time to drive to a cruise-in, in Hope. This goes for anything such as fish fries, downtown events, etc.

It takes a lot for the groups that put these events on, from asking and getting permission for the location to getting and coordinating people like food trucks and groups together, getting dash plaques and trophies made, to asking volunteers to help. Trash pickup and electric, bathrooms and so much more at the site have to be lined up.

I think they at the very least deserve a thank you from all those who show up, whether it is to see the cars or participants who come to see others classic cars and show off their car. It takes so much more than most people realize when making events happen, regardless of the type of event. I know as I used to do large Walk America events for the March of Dimes, Heart Walk, cancer and others for 20 years. Now I own an old classic truck and I am retired and want to enjoy these events and thank those who put them on for whatever fundraising event it is for, or to just enjoy whatever it’s about.

So, to all those who come, take some time, and make a phone call, write a thank you letter or walk up to an organizer and say “Thank you for this.” I called the local Moose Lodge to thank them for what they did over the prior weekend for a car show.

I know people are busy these days, but you know stopping for a few minutes out of a day to call or write or walk up and say thank you is nothing. It is time to stop, take a breather and think about what you do, what you think, and think about others for a change. We have lost that in today’s world. We have lost a lot in today’s world and need to start getting back to being more thankful toward these diligent people who put these events on regardless of event.

Make someone’s day and tell them how much you appreciate what they did for so many, including you.
