Looking Back – Sept. 15

An excavator operated by Alvin Hazelwood tears down an abandoned home at 905 Wilson St. in September 2014. The home had long been a haven for problematic activity in the Ninth Street neighborhood.

Heather Siesel was chosen to replace Jim Murray as director of the Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District after Murray’s retirement. Siesel was previously the solid waste management education coordinator.

1999

The Columbus Area Arts Council and Su Casa Columbus held their first annual Celebration of Mexican Independence Day at The Commons, which included Mexican music, dancing, piñatas and food. Local students studying Spanish also performed songs at the event.

1974

An exhibition titled “Panorama” was the first to open at the Columbus branch of the Indianapolis Museum of Art on the second floor of the Visitors Center. Another exhibit, titled “Second Storey” was in the planning stages and would contain 75 items.
