Coming off a sweep of Conference Indiana opponent Terre Haute North on Saturday, Columbus North was ripe for a letdown when it faced Class A Greenwood Christian Academy on Monday evening.

There was no letdown for the Bull Dogs.

North jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first set and cruised from there to a 25-14, 25-19, 25-12 victory.

“The team is determined to finish out the season strong, and they’re doing a great job making that happen,” North coach Jenna Ortega said. “There was no letdown at all. I was proud of them.”

After cruising in the first two sets, the Bull Dogs (8-11) trailed 9-8 in the third set. It was tied 10-10 when North went on a 13-1 run behind the serving of Lucy Wilson and Kyndal Wheeler.

Karen Dutro pounded 10 kills, Reese Edwards recorded 14 assists, Addy Dean had five blocks, Morgan Osborn notched 15 digs and Wilson served four aces to lead North.

Also for the Bull Dogs, Kennedy Horn tallied nine kills and three aces, and Elaina Penrod added eight kills. Lexi Denny contributed seven assists, Dutro had four blocks and Osborn added three aces.

“I think our blockers did a really good job of setting the block and just letting our defense set up around them,” Osborn said. “I think that helped a lot.”

North will host Jennings County for senior night on Thursday.
