Shots fired call on Silver Fox Drive leads to arrest

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus resident is in custody after a report of shots fired Sunday night.

At 10:28 p.m. Sunday, Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 2900 block of Silver Fox Drive, said Sgt. Skylar Berry,  Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The responding officers gathered that there was a fight at the home between a male and female. The female ran to a neighbor’s house for help as the male fired shots from a handgun. She was able to get into the neighbor’s home and call police. When CPD arrived, the male refused to come out of the house.

CPD SWAT, the Crisis Negotiations Team, and detectives were called to the scene. Eventually, the man came out of the house and was taken into custody by officers.

The investigation is still ongoing.

The female reported minor injuries from the fight and was taken to the Columbus Regional Hospital. Investigators are still looking into the injuries to determine if any of them came from the shots being fired. Multiple bullets were found lodged in the neighbor’s house.

Brent Clayburn, 59, of Columbus, was arrested on preliminary charges of domestic battery with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, and criminal confinement with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 felony.
