Coffee trail offers java joy

Lucabe Coffee Company at Eastbrook Plaza in Columbus, an award-winning repurposing of the Modernist architectural landmark Irwin Union Bank and Trust building, is among the Columbus stops on the expanded Southeast Indiana Coffee Trail.

Here’s a wide-eyed way to drink to a different kind of daily grind — and let your java joy overflow all at the same time.

Say good morning to the expanded Southeast Indiana Coffee Trail, complete with three participating Columbus shops among multiple locations here.

The regional trail now includes 21 independently owned and operated coffee shops located in seven counties throughout southeast Indiana.

Participating coffee shops in Columbus are Gramz Bakery & Café, two Lucabe Coffee Company locations, and two Sojourn Coffee Company locations.

Regional locations include:

• Dearborn County: Funny Farm Coffee Company, Sweet Beard Bake House, Simply Sweet Bakery & Coffee, ARS Café & Meeting House, Spire Book & Coffee Co.

• Decatur County: The Branch Gathering Place + Coffee House

• Franklin County: Coffee on Main, The Village Smith Coffee Bar & Apothecary.

• Jennings County: Hos Coffee.

• Jefferson County: Hos Coffee, The Attic/Coffee Mill Café, The Red Roaster, Analog Coffee & Records, Playhouse Café, Honey Bean Coffee Co.

• Ripley County: Emily’s Brew Coffee Co., The Upper Room Cafe, Amack’s Well Community Coffee House.

The challenge will run through December 2025, giving plenty of time for participants to complete the trail.

“We are happy to have five coffee shops in Columbus join the trail this year,” said Misty Weisensteiner, executive director of the Columbus Area Visitors Center. “This is a fun way to showcase all of these great businesses in our region, plus people get to sample the many different coffee types and specialty drinks found at each shop.”

How To Participate

After picking up a coffee trail rack card at one of the participating visitors centers or coffee shops, coffee lovers can have their card checked off at each location. Upon completion of the trail, participants will receive a Southeast Indiana Coffee Trail T-shirt. The first 100 participants to complete the trail also will receive an insulated travel mug along with coupons and discounts redeemable at coffee spots along the trail.
