Flack to pilot Jets baseball program

Hauser did not have to look far to find its new baseball coach.

Mike Flack, who has spent the past 12 years as an assistant, was named the head coach Wednesday. He replaces Nate Long, guided the Jets for the past seven seasons.

“This honestly is the only place I want to be,” Flack said. “The only head coaching job I ever want is this place right here. I love Hauser. I grew up a Jet. I’m always going to be a Jet.”

A 1996 Hauser graduate, Flack played four years for Hauser. He became an assistant coach under Jerry Schoen in 2012.

“I felt like in order for us to keep the proud tradition that coach Schoen and coach Long had instilled in the program, I felt like for us to keep that and keep the momentum, I felt like it was time for me to try to step up and fill those shoes. Hopefully, I’m able to fulfill that. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill.”

“Coach Flack’s loyalty to Hauser Baseball and willingness to develop a long-standing program, as well as develop great relationships with players was very appealing for our athletic program,” Hauser athletics director Kyle Shipp added.

Flack, who is an IT Specialist for Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corporation, hopes he can keep the Jets playing winning baseball next spring and beyond.

“I just want to put together the best nine guys that we can and compete,” Flack said. “The goal every year is to win conference and win a sectional. With the student-athletes that we have coming back, I feel very optimistic about the team this year.”
