Services and studies

Alongsider Church — Alongsider is a community of house churches coming together to worship as one church at YES Cinema on the first and third Sundays of the month. It’s a place of belonging where members learn, grow, experience community and pray together.

House churches meet in neighborhoods on the second and fourth Sundays for worship through conversational study and community building. The congregation focuses on care and connection, prayer, and sending one another out.

Asbury United Methodist Church — Asbury offers a traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m. Nursery is available for both services. Kids’ church is offered only at the 11 a.m. service. Sunday school classes meet at 10 a.m. Asbury offers a variety of classes and group studies at various times during the week. On Oct. 6, the church will celebrate in one service at 10 a.m., with a Creativity Showcase Sunday. This showcase will display the creativity of our Asbury family. Viewing of exhibits begins at 9 a.m. with worship at 10 a.m. Exhibits will be open after the service as well.

During the church’s 11 a.m. worship service, we welcome the kids to come up front, in their own prepared area, to experience worship and to participate in quiet activities during the service. The church also offers Kids Church for 3- to 12-years-olds at 11 a.m. services. Kids Church features songs, crafts, Bible lessons, snacks, puppets and a bit of play time, all focused around each child and their special relationship with Jesus.

Central Heights Church of God — The church offers 9:30 a.m. Sunday school for all ages and worship services at 10:30 a.m. The message will be led by Pastor Jason Johnson. Children’s church takes place during service and a nursery is available.

Community Church of Columbus — Tuesday Connection, a series of support and enrichment groups, launches on Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is also provided at 5:30 p.m. and kids programming is also provided.

Adult groups include divorce care, grief share, family grace (adults that have a loved one with a mental illness struggle), insight (adults that have someone in their life with an addiction), embrace life (single mothers of young children), celebrate recovery (adults with a harmful habit, addiction or hurt), smart step family (adults in blended families), valor de mujer (support for women who speak Spanish), Chinese small group (in Mandarin Chinese), and single adult community (adults ages 35+). Thrive teens (guys and girls groups) will also be available.

Holistic health, embrace grace and making marriage work groups start in January 2025.

East Columbus United Methodist Church — Sunday worship service begins at 9 a.m. Pastor Jongmin Lee will deliver the message. The morning blended worship service includes praise music and traditional hymns. Children receive a special message during children’s moment and are dismissed for children’s church during the service. Sunday school begins at 10:10 a.m. with classes for all age groups. Grace’s Table Free Hot Meal is served the second Sunday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Youth Center Building.

Faith Lutheran Church — Worship each Sunday begins at 9 a.m. in person and livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page. Most Sundays, Sunday school and an adult Bible study are offered after the worship service.

Preschool classes continue throughout the year and the congregation offers an afterschool program each school day from 3 to 5:30 p.m. with busing from Southside Elementary.

First Baptist Church — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. Sundays, with a nursery and children’s programming available. Pastor Evan Guse is preaching a sermon series through November titled “Faithful.” The church also has several Sunday school offerings and different Bible study groups that meet throughout the week. The current Bible study series for both the men and women is “Profiles of Courage: Five Women in The HERitage of Jesus.” The women’s Bible study is on Thursdays at 9 a.m. in the church’s chapel and the men’s Bible study is on Fridays at 7 a.m. in the church’s fellowship hall.

First Lutheran Church — First Lutheran Church offers in-person worship on Sundays at 8:45 a.m. for the traditional service and 11:15 a.m. for the contemporary service. First Presbyterian Church — Livin’ by Faith Band will lead worship on Sept. 29. Pastor Felipe Martinez’s message “Why Couldn’t We Do It?” will be based on Mark 9:14-29.

First United Methodist Church — On Sunday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m., the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “Kingdom Building: Working Together”. The Scripture will be Mark 9:38-41. The church encourages those attending in person to arrive 10 minutes before the service. Child care will be available from 9:45 a.m. until the end of the 10 a.m. service. Sunday school for children ages 4-12 will start at 9 a.m.

For those unable to attend the in-person service or not yet comfortable meeting in person, service livestreams will be available on the church Facebook page and the church YouTube channel (FUMC Columbus). Videos will be available on the church website for later viewing as well.

Join the CARS group for “Groovin’ in Greensburg!” today at 10 a.m. The group will carpool from the church to Greensburg for shopping at several of their unique shops and a day of fun and fellowship. Lunch will be at Carriage On The Square Smokehouse.

Come support the youth group while enjoying some pancakes. On Sept. 29 after service, stop by the fellowship hall to grab some breakfast. All proceeds will go to support the youth and their activities.

Last spring, the Rev. Howard Boles led a four-week Bible study on the verses often associated with homosexuality. The study was well attended and well-received and a request has been made to repeat the study. So, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m., the church will offer this study again. No advance preparation is required. Just bring your Bible, meet us in the Blue Room, and we will explore these verses and stories together.

Our pets are important parts of our families, sources of love and comfort. On Saturday, Oct. 5, the church will offer a Blessing of the Animals in the green space north of the church. Bring beloved pets to receive a blessing. Activities begin at 10 a.m. Be sure to share this with your friends and neighbors.

Garden City Christian Church — Sunday school classes are available for infants through adults at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m. on Sundays, the church offers a blended worship service as well as classes for kids through fifth grade.

Wednesday evening Bible study, “The Life of Moses,” is at 6:30 p.m. weekly.

Troop IN-0110 meets twice monthly on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. during the school year.

Mount Pleasant Christian Church — The church invites the community to visit the little 150-year-old country church for a 10:30 a.m. service every Sunday. The church preaches out of the King James Bible and sings out of hymn books. The church is Bible-based, Christ-centered and spirit-led.

Petersville United Methodist Church — On Sunday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m., Pastor Rebecca Milne will bring the morning message.

Kathy Bush will serve as song and worship leader. Teresa Covert will share the children’s sermon. The service will be available to view on Facebook throughout the week.

Anyone in the community is invited to enjoy a meal and a time of sharing at “The Table” at the church every second Thursday at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. There is no charge for the meal.

Sandy Hook United Methodist Church — The church gathers weekly for in-person and online worship. This Sunday, Sept. 29, service starts at 11 a.m. The Rev. Calvin Brandenburg will bring a message about “Remembering our Heritage and Celebrating our Future”.

St. Paul Lutheran Church — St. Michael and All Angels Festival will be celebrated in a Service of Song led by Pastor Doug Bauman Sunday at the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services.

Christian fellowship begins at 9:10 a.m. with Christian education classes for all ages at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Bauman will present a discussion on signs, symbols and their meanings in the fellowship room. Deaconess Taylor Fickenscher will lead a study in the gathering space on the book “Life Together” by Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

The Spanish worship service will be led by Pastor Daniel Fickenscher at 10:45 a.m. in the fellowship room followed by Spanish Bible Study at 12:15 p.m.

Matins prayer service led by Pastor Fickenscher is offered each Wednesday in the church at 10:15 a.m.

Radio worship service is every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., and “The Lutheran Hour” is every Sunday at 7 p.m., both on WYGS 91.1 FM.
