Betty Maxine Tutton, 90, a longtime resident of Columbus, went to be with Jesus, on Sunday, September 29, 2024 with her family by her side at home.

Betty was born September 15, 1934, in Decatur County, Indiana, the daughter of Robert L. and Bessie Oletha Owens Baugh. She was a cheerleader for Jackson Township High School, class of 1952. On January 16, 1953, she married the love of her life, James “Jim” Tutton.

Betty worked for over 30 years at Cummins Engine Company in the international human resources department.

She was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church, joining in 1956 and quickly finding her gift of servanthood. She taught children’s Sunday School classes &Jr church for decades in various teaching &support roles.

She was lauded by her grandchildren for her homemade chicken &noodles and by her family and church family for her homemade pies. Well known for her hospitality, she appreciated a well-set table; and never a holiday was celebrated without a vast menu and finely decorated tables with heirloom china and finest cutlery. Christmases &Easters hold special memories for her grandchildren celebrating yester-year style Christmases at her beautiful cabin and outrageous easter egg hunts. Many memories are shared by the grandchildren of overnight stays sleeping on Grandma’s feather tick with midnight (and beyond) snacks being served by Grandma.
