Ohio man killed in early morning accident on State Road 3 in Decatur County

DECATUR COUNTY — Indiana State Police responded to a fatal accident shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday north of Greensburg on State Road 3 for a two-vehicle head-on crash that resulted in a fatality.

The initial investigation by Indiana State Police Crash reconstructionists indicated that a 2017 GMC Acadia, being driven by Adam P. Peters, 36, Morristown, Ohio was traveling southbound on State Road 3 near County Road 300N.  For an unknown reason, Peters’ vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound 2017 Ford E-350 box truck being driven by Jamin E. Guthrie, 39, North Vernon.  The vehicles collided nearly head on in the roadway.  After the collision, both vehicles came to rest partially off the roadway.

Peters sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Decatur County Coroner’s Office.  Guthrie received minor injuries in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.  Toxicology tests are pending at this time but alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors.  State Road 3 was closed for approximately four hours for crash investigation and cleanup.

Adam Peters’ family has been notified.

The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Greensburg Fire Department, Decatur County EMS, and Decatur County Coroner’s Office.
