Columbus North and Columbus East, fresh off their crosstown regular-season volleyball meeting on Thursday, could face each other in the finals of the Class 4A East Central Sectional.
The draws were announced Sunday evening by the IHSAA.
The Bull Dogs drew Franklin in the first round at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 in a rematch of last year’s sectional final won by the Grizzly Cubs. The teams also will play a regular-season match Thursday at Franklin. The winner of the first-round sectional match will play Whiteland in the semifinals at around 12:45 p.m. Oct. 19.
The Olympians drew a bye and will play host East Central in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Oct. 19. East beat the Trojans earlier in the season. The sectional final is at 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
Meanwhile, Hauser drew a bye in the Trinity Lutheran Sectional and will play in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Oct. 19 against the winner of the 6 p.m. Oct. 15 game between Class A No. 1 Trinity and Oldenburg Academy. The sectional final is at 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
Also in Class A, South Decatur will play Southwestern (Shelby) at around 7:45 p.m. Oct. 17 in the first round of the North Decatur Sectional. The winner will play Waldron or North Decatur in the semifinals at around 11:45 a.m. Oct. 19. The sectional final is at 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
Jennings County drew a bye in the 3A Lawrenceburg Sectional and will play Greensburg or South Dearborn in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Oct. 19. The sectional final is at 7 p.m. Oct. 19.
In 2A, Brown County will play Switzerland County in the opening round of the Brownstown Central Sectional at 6 p.m. Oct. 17. The winner will face Brownstown at 11 a.m. Oct. 19. The sectional final is at 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
The regional round will be Oct 26. Columbus East will be a host site for one of the southern semistate matches on Nov. 2. The state finals are Nov. 9 at Ball State’s Worthen Arena.
