College sports notebook: Wilsons team up for doubles victory

BLOOMINGTON — Sisters Ashlie and Kathryn Wilson teamed together for the first time in doubles for Purdue Friday and posted a 6-2 win against Memphis’ Rebecca Frant and Clemence Thouard in the Hoosier Classic.

Ashlie, a junior from Columbus North, and Kathryn, a freshman from North, fell to Purdue teammates Marina Fuduric and Li Hsin Lin 6-4 in doubles on Saturday.

Ashlie and Kathryn Wilson each lost their opening singles matches in three sets on Friday before bouncing back with three-set singles wins on Saturday.

Gilley leads Sycamores in digs

Chloe Gilley led Indiana State with 17 digs Saturday in a four-set Missouri Valley Conference loss at Belmont.

Gilley, a freshman from Columbus East, also had three assists and one ace for the Sycamores (3-13, 0-4).

HANOVER — Blake Huffman carried four times for seven yards Saturday in Hanover’s 49-41 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference loss to Mount St. Joseph.

Newell helps Navy to fourth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Matt Newell finished 97th Saturday to help Navy to a fourth-place team finish in Lehigh’s Paul Short Run.

Mendez, Tong run in Live in Lou Classic

LOUISVILLE — Mateo Mendez finished 211th in the Men’s 8K Gold race Saturday to help Louisville to a 25th-place team finish in its Live In Lou Classic.

Akot Tong, a freshman from North, was 114th in the Men’s 8K Blue race in 26:36.1 to help IU East to an eighth-place team finish. He was the Red Wolves’ No. 6 runner.

Swegman, Kistler help lead Hanover

TERRE HAUTE — Callie Swegman finished 132nd Friday to lead Hanover to a 32nd-place team finish in the D-III Pre-Nats meet.
