Driver arrested after pursuit from Columbus into Brown County

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County sheriff deputies arrested a Nineveh man after a pursuit that started at 5:04 p.m. Thursday from Columbus into Brown County.

Deputy Tyler Cooper observed a silver Hyundai driving recklessly on North U.S. 31 Thursday and attempted a traffic stop int he area of North U.S. 31 and Lowell Road, said Sgt. Dane Duke, sheriff’s office spokesman. The driver refused to stop, Duke said.

Deputies pursued the vehicle south on Indianapolis Road and left Columbus along State Road 46 traveling westbound. The pursuit continued westbound into Brown County until coming to an end near the intersection of Upper Salt Creek Road and Petro Drive, Duke said. At the end of the pursuit there was a vehicle collision between the suspect vehicle and a patrol vehicle that resulted in no injuries. The driver of the vehicle, Brock Thompson 30, of Nineveh, was removed from the vehicle and detained. A search of the vehicle later located narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia, Duke said.

Thompson was transported to an area hospital for a jail clearance as well as a blood draw for an operating while intoxicated investigation. Thompson was released from the hospital then booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on the charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness, operating a vehicle while intoxicated – endangerment, possession of a syringe and possession of methamphetamine.
