COLUMBUS, Ind. — Heritage Fund announces online applications are available for scholarships to be awarded in 2025.

Completed applications are due by 4 p.m. Jan. 30, 2025. A listing of scholarships, eligibility requirements and link to a new application website are available at heritagefundbc.org, under Scholarships.

New and returning applicants should create an account through the new online site to access applications. An exciting feature of the new system is the eligibility match, which will automatically apply students for those scholarships for which they have qualified. Applicants will receive a confirmation of those scholarships and any additional information required. It is, therefore, extremely important applicants carefully review and answer all questions and eligibility statements correctly, as well as those included in the email confirmation following submission.

A convenient combined application will be used by graduating seniors, undergraduate and graduate students and medical/dental students.

Heritage Fund awarded more than $1M in educational scholarships in 2024 to area students.

New scholarship opportunities this year include:

Columbus Evening Kiwanis Club Scholarship — Scholarship originally established by W. Calvert Brand and grown over time through the fundraising efforts of the Columbus Evening Kiwanis Club, open to graduating seniors from Bartholomew County with a preference for a student who demonstrates strong scholastic ability and desire to obtain higher education; with financial need; and members of Key Club/demonstration of high level of community service

Music Award opportunities

The online application for the Patrick Bowman Memorial Music Fund is currently available to U.S. residents up to age 35 pursuing an education or career in music. The first-place performer in each senior competition will receive a $3,500 award and may be given an invitation to perform with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. High school sophomores and juniors who are residents of Bartholomew County can compete for scholarships for music lessons or camps.

Independent judges from area colleges and universities will critique participants’ technique, interpretation and general musicianship.

Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. Dec. 11, 2024.

The Anna Newell Brown Awards for Vocal Excellence were established through the Heritage Fund in 1985 by Robert and Betty Brown to honor Mr. Brown’s mother, Anna Newell Brown. She was a distinguished vocalist and contributed greatly to the cultural life of the Bartholomew County community. The Betty F. Brown Awards for Instrumental Excellence were established by Mr. Robert N. Brown in memory of Betty. Mrs. Brown was a well-known and highly respected advocate and patron of the arts, both locally and statewide.
