Brian’s picks

* For those looking for laughs, local drama director and actress Naomi Fleetwood-Pyle has found another dinner theater comedy to present at Willow Leaves of Hope on the historic Hope Town Square Friday through Sunday at 326 Jackson St. “Always a Bridesmaid” with Fleetwood-Pyle, Falicia Whited (shown here), Marlee Davis and others star in a story about four friends who have sworn to keep a promise they made at senior prom: to be in each other’s wedding, no matter what. Thirty years later, they’re determined to make good on such a vow. Information and reservations (for $35): 812-341-7251.

*Retired pediatrician and allergist Fred Leickly, shown here, will speak on “The Civil War and Bartholomew County” at a free program at 6 p.m. Thursday at Helen Haddad Hall, 315 Franklin St. in downtown Columbus. The free presentation is funded by the Bartholomew County Historical Society’s Evelyn Seward Speaker Series Endowment. Leickly moved to Columbus in 2018, and began researching local links to the Civil War early this year. His great grandfather fought for the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry and survived to write his recollections of his experiences. Leickly has been a member of the Sons of Union Veteran of the Civil War for the past 22 years. He serves as Senior Vice Commander and Secretary for the John B. Anderson Camp #223. This Camp has been in partnership with the historical society helping with the Talking Tombstone programs.
