Parkinson’s Disease video series begins Monday

The local Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28 at Mill Race Center, 900 Lindsey St. in Columbus, for a three-part online video series link “A Journey Through Parkinson’s Disease.”

The series also can be viewed from home for those who register with the Iowa State Extension Service at https://bit.ly/AJourneyThroughPDVirtual

This workshop is for anyone who would like to learn more about the disorder.

Parkinson’s disease is a chronic, progressive brain disorder that affects the nervous system and causes movement problems. Symptoms include shaking, stiffness, slow movement, poor balance, and difficulty walking and talking.

The topics for each session are as follows:

  • Session 1: Symptoms / Seeking Medical Care / What to Expect / Diagnosis
  • Session 2: Causes of Parkinson’s Disease and How Treatment Works
  • Session 3: Alternate Therapies and At-Home Activities and Tools

A general support group meeting for those diagnosed with Parkinson’s or other related neurological illnesses, family members, and caregivers will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Mill Race Center.

And a support group meeting for family members and caregivers will be from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Nov. 20 at Mill Race Center.
