Howard J. “Bud” Corson

Howard J. “Bud” Corson, 81, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life Sunday, October 6, 2024, at his residence.

Bud was born in Batesville, Indiana, August 7, 1943, the loving son of Howard R. “Tim” and Mayme Chase Corson. Bud was raised in Friendship, Indiana and attended Cross Plains High School graduating in 1961. Bud married Ruth L. Sedam August 4, 1962; she survives.

Bud worked as a mechanic for many years at his family’s garage, H.R. Corson &Son Chevrolet Dealership. Bud eventually changed careers and was an EMT on the ambulance and a nurse in the ER at the Bartholomew County Hospital; all while still living in Friendship. Bud moved his family to Columbus in 1976 and he joined the Columbus Fire Department in 1977. He made his way up through the ranks to deputy chief. Bud also worked as a paramedic for the fire department once they started their own medic. After retirement in 2006, Bud continued teaching paramedic classes for the hospital.

Bud is a member of East Columbus Christian Church.. He cherished spending time with his family, and enjoyed traveling, watching and playing golf and watching other sports. In his younger years, Bud raced three quarter midgets and he had a passion for cars and racing.

Bud was a happy and friendly guy and could liven up any group. He enjoyed telling a good joke and playing pranks any chance he could. Bud was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Bud is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth; daughter, Teresa (Rick) Fischer of Columbus; grandchildren, Lauren (Branden) Luhn of Scipio, Joel Williams of Columbus, Jayla Williams of Columbus, Jared Williams of Columbus and Joshua (Erika) Williams of Royal Oak, Michigan; and great-grandchildren, Eli and Aiden Luhn of Scipio and Abram Williams of Royal Oak, Michigan.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jeff Williams; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and June Corson.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Ron Bridgewater will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Cremation will take place following the funeral service and private inurnment will be at the River View Cemetery in Aurora, Indiana.

Memorial contributions in memory of Bud can be made to East Columbus Christian Church, the Firemen’s Cheer Fund or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
