How to decide when voting for president

I have two mandates when I am deciding on a candidate who has decided to run for president. First, I believe this person should have some past government experience that has a proven record. I believe that this is a necessary foundation that a future president will need to meet the many challenges as president.

Second, I expect a candidate to be someone who has a proven record of having high morals and character.

Trump has the experience of being president for four years. Unfortunately, Trump became president without any prior government experience in 2017. Thus the Republican Party picked qualified people to fill the advisors and inner circle to guide him and give expert advice. But this ran against Trump’s way that he ran his business.

In his business, Trump never delegated to anyone else. He wanted complete control and so he was involved in making all decisions pertaining to how the company was run. Thus he had many conflicts while he listened to experts’ advice.

Finally he started to replace some of his advisors with people he knew would only agree with him. The rest of the appointed experts decided to leave on their own. The Republicans who gave Trump the experts he needed to govern the country now realized that Trump had total control of the Republican party. The party under Trump had become extremely conservative with an emphasis on race and wanting the government to place more emphasis on religion, though our country’s founders always believed in the separation of church and state. Even the Republicans in Congress now believe that any disagreement with Trump could end their career with his complete control of the voters.

In 2020, Trump lost his reelection bid to Joe Biden by more than 7 million votes. But his attempt to overturn the election with a raid on the Capitol failed due to the heroics of Vice President Mike Pence. This history of Trump’s time as president and his attempt to try to overturn a presidential election shows the true character of the man.

Today there are several prominent Republicans who have never voted for a Democrat who say they are going to vote for Kamala Harris because they fear Trump. A retired military general has stated that Trump would be a disaster if he became commander-in-chief of our military and had full control of the military.

I believe a president of the United States should have the respect and trust of leaders in our ally countries around the world. Trump does not have their trust. All of our global allies — Europe, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and Australia — have all signaled that they want Harris to be America’s next president. But our biggest adversaries — Russia and China — are using all their means to try to get Trump elected!
