Raymond Lee Shutters, 94, of Columbus, passed away peacefully to a better place 11:56 a.m., October 12, 2024.

Raymond was born June 9, 1930, the son of Bruce and Stella Jarvis Shutters Sr. in Columbus, Indiana.

He volunteered to serve his country during the Korean War and enlisted on July 5, 1951. Raymond attained the rank of Corporal, receiving 3 Bronze Stars in the ERC Engineering Corp and the 6th Armored Tank Division. He retired from Cummins Engine Company after 35 years of service. He enjoyed NASCAR, Colts football, and talking about any kind of cars. He loved reminiscing about the cars of his younger days, including his Ford Model A. He enjoyed traveling and at one time also had a home in Florida.

He is survived by a son, Steve (Judy Kilby) Shutters of Palm Harbor, FL.; a daughter, Jane Harbaugh Haza, a grandson, Cody Harbaugh, all of Columbus. He is further survived by a longtime companion, Elizabeth Johnson, of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bruce Shutters JR, sisters, Edith Hawn, Elsie Yeley Khune, Beatrice Hochadel and Fern Hammonds.

In keeping with his wishes, a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2024 at Garland Brook Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Boston officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.

Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
