Letter: A vote for Wirth is a vote for education

Have Hoosiers paid attention to the number of teachers running for office in Indiana? Have any of them thought about the reason somebody whose vocation has been to teach children, would decide to go rake in the mud of politics?

It’s because the classroom is where you see the many failed policies show up. When you’re a teacher you’re privy to many of the details that affect a student’s life, far more than most legislators. Teachers know that when mom is afraid of dad, that home doesn’t feel safe. When home doesn’t feel safe, it’s not going to be the place where a child can best flourish.

Sometimes dad is all on his own and doesn’t have reliable affordable childcare. If so, there’s no end to the amount of trauma and tragedies that can affect a child’s life when there are few good choices for dad to make! When the CPS budget gets cut, “protocols” get changed, or as we have seen recently, sleeping at a caseworker’s office, teachers see those effects too.

Throughout Cinde Wirth’s life here in Bartholomew County, she has been a small business owner, scientist, mother, educator and now, a daughter of aging parents and adult children who want no part of Indiana. She has seen the effects of extremism on the party that represents many of her long-time friends and family, turn its back on rural, and urban Hoosiers alike.

Cinde is a teacher. More importantly, she is a lifetime learner! We don’t need another silver spooned “businessman” to represent the 6th District. We need instead a knowledgeable, trustworthy real Hoosier who understands governing and the people she is elected to help.

I will be voting for Cinde Wirth.

Someone who can manage a classroom of teenagers and get them to learn – will do us well in Congress.
