Columbus North High School’s marching band, the Sound of North, qualified for the ISSMA semistate competition after performing in the Class A regional at Center Grove High School. North, Avon and New Castle were the only three bands to receive a With Distinction Award in all three judged categories: music, visual and general effect.

1999

Trumpeter Phil Smith of the New York Philharmonic performed during the first half of a performance with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. The concert opened with Eino Tamberg’s “Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra.”

1974

The Columbus North boys track team won their first-ever title in North’s sectional meet at Lincoln Park. North beat runner-up Madison’s 100 with a 61.
