One dead, two seriously injured after three-car accident in Scott County

SCOTT COUNTY   A Scott County woman was killed, and two others received severe injuries in a three-vehicle crash Friday evening just west of Scottsburg.

Indiana State Police said at 9:22 p.m. Friday, a Scott County firefighter was first to arrive on the scene and advised of a severe crash located at the intersection of State Road 56 and South Zion Road a few miles west of Scottsburg.

The collision involved a red 2002 Ford Focus, a silver 2013 Chevrolet Impala, and a green 2014 Ford Fiesta. The drivers were the sole occupants of each of the three vehicles. The firefighter reported one driver was possibly deceased, and the others had severe injuries. ISP troopers and officers from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, along with local first responders quickly responded to the scene.
Early in the investigation, officers requested assistance from the ISP Sellersburg Post Crash Reconstruction Team.  Troopers Tate Rohlfing and Ben Davis then responded to investigate.

The two injured drivers were transported to University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville for severe injuries. State police said the driver of the red Ford Focus, 20-year-old Catelynn Jewell Richards of Scottsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Due to the complexity of the crash, investigators have not released specific details.  The investigation is ongoing.

The roadway remained closed for over four hours during the investigation.  Officers from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, the Scott County Coroner’s Office, and local firefighters assisted at the scene.
