Eagles advance with win vs. Mitchell

NASHVILLE — Brown County scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter Friday to break a 6-6 tie and post a 21-6 win over Mitchell in a first-round Class 2A sectional football game.

The Eagles took an early lead when Noah Lewis hit Landon Scott for a 15-yard score. But the Bluejackets recovered and onside kick and went in to tie the game at 6-6.

That’s the way it remained until the first play of the fourth quarter, when Lewis hit AJ Bell to set up a Lewis-to-Kody Shugars touchdown pass. Lewis ran in the 2-point conversion.

Brown County’s defense then held, and Quentin Bell scored on a 15-yard run. Landon Scott added the extra point kick.

“It was one of those games that we kind of started off a little slow and got some momentum going and finished strong,” Brown County coach Tony Bell said.

Kyle Cobb had an interception for the Eagles defense.

“The name of the game for us tonight was defense,” Tony Bell said. “We played probably our best defensive game of the season. It was just solid overall defense for us tonight. Tommy Buccos was lights out on the D-line. We brought a new kid in at linebacker tonight Asher Stringer, and he made some big plays. Then, Bahoti Fulton was just all over the field defensively.”

Brown County (6-4) advances to the sectional semifinals, where it will visit Greencastle (4-6) on Nov. 1.

“We know we have a dogfight, but that’s what happens when you move on in the playoffs,” Tony Bell said.
