Merry Carmichael was named The Republic’s Woman of the Year for her service to the community. Carmichael founded ABC-Stewart School in 1969 and taught at IUPUC for 20 years.

Frank Forester of Columbus was elected as president of the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce by the Chamber Board of Directors. A.D. Silva, Marion Deitrich, Byron Carr, John Sohn, Max Lemley and Bruce Dalton were also named to the Board of Directors.
