Hank Lin // Columbus North senior tennis player

Lin beat Terre Haute North’s James Belmar 6-1, 6-1; Fairfield’s Garrett Stoltzfus 6-2, 6-3 and Center Grove’s Tyler Lane 6-4, 6-2 to win the Boys Tennis State Singles title.

His performance last week: “I felt pretty strong about it, especially my baseline rallies and serve returns. I also thought my net game was pretty solid and allowed me to close out points. I thought my footwork could have been better, but overall it was good.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I usually just put on some music, and I’ll go through my warmup routine.”

Favorite drink: “Mango Juice”

Favorite food: “Orange chicken from Panda Express”

Favorite class: “AP Statistics”

Favorite sports team: “Purdue men’s tennis”

Favorite athlete: “Jannik Sinner”

Role model: “My brother Nathan.”

Best advice: “Focus on what you can control.”

Athletics goal: “Winning state definitely was my goal.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Spain. I’d like to play on the clay courts and use the Spanish I learned in school and apply that there and see what the culture is like.”

Carys Glyn-Jones // Columbus North senior cross-country runner

Carys Glyn-Jones

Glyn-Jones won the Evansville Mater Dei Regional in 18 minutes, 17.5 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) to lead the Bull Dogs to the team championship.

Her performance last week: “I’m pretty happy. It was a fun race. It was a little bit different than what I’m used to, but I think it was great to see my teammates around me together for a long time. Everyone else raced really well, so it was just a fun experience.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I make sure get a lot of sleep, especially the week before. Then other than that, eating well, hydrating and then obviously the night before, get a good night’s sleep.”

Favorite drink: “Coke”

Favorite food: “Popcorn”

Favorite class: “English”

Favorite sports team: “South African rugby”

Favorite athlete: “Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone”

Role model: “My parents (Deanne and Mornay Annandale)”

Best advice: “To have no regrets. Whenever you’re in the moment, and you could choose to do the right thing or the wrong thing or give up on a workout or a run, if you think to yourself, I don’t want to regret not doing this.’’

Athletics goal: “To be able to look back and know I put 100 percent of my effort in and have no regrets about anything.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Either Italy or Greece, because ever since I was younger, I would watch movies where people would be there, and it just looks really beautiful.”
