COLUMBUS, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Columbus is welcoming local writers to a series of events and writing opportunities at Moravec Hall this November for National Novel Writing Month.
A challenge to empower and encourage writers of all experience levels, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) helps bring focus to writing an entire novel of 50,000 words in just one month. Ivy Tech Columbus is joining in on the month-long challenge by offering activities and a place for writers to concentrate on their work. Viewpoint Books and Lucabe Coffee Co. are sponsoring the college’s events.
“As a previous participant in NaNoWriMo, I can attest to how helpful it is to have others encourage you and offer tips, as well as to have a place to write without distractions,” said Ivy Tech Columbus Chancellor Steven Combs. “We welcome writers to take advantage of the inspiration they can find at our stunning Moravec Hall campus building and the opportunity to share and discuss their work with others writing during the month.”
NaNoWriMo activities at Ivy Tech Columbus include a kick-off event from 5-6 p.m. Nov. 1 at Moravec Hall followed by time to write in the building from 6-10 p.m. Throughout the month, the college will host other events, including tips for typing, how to use or disengage from technology, and presentations from local authors. Moravec Hall will be open at designated times throughout November, including set hours every weekend, for community members to come in and focus on their writing.
