Looking Back – Nov. 1

Amateur electronics hobbyist Gary Davis tunes in his homemade color television camera at a home workshop in Columbus on Nov. 1, 1974. Davis said the camera was the first ever created for television using his methods.

Crew Carwash donated $40,000 to four Big Brothers Big Sisters locations, including one in Columbus. The money was raised during the annual Crew for Kids fundraiser, where half the proceeds from every Ultimate and Works wash was donated.

1999

Letters written by Pvt. Joseph Hotz, Union Army solider and great-great grandfather to Columbus resident Tim Hotz, were displayed at the Colonel Eli Lilly Civil War Museum, located in Indianapolis’ Soldiers & Sailors Monument.

Gary Davis of Columbus built a homemade color television camera in his workshop, which appeared in two issues of Radio Electronics, an electronics trade magazine.
