Carolyn Jo Hensley, 62, of North Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at her home in North Vernon.

A rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024. Visitation will follow from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements.

Born on April 24, 1962, in Seymour, Carolyn was the loving daughter of James and Anna Margaret (Fair) Mick. She married Ron Hensley on December 27, 1981; they enjoyed over 4 decades of marriage.

She graduated from IU with honors and started her 37-year career as an educator. She began teaching at St. Ambrose in Seymour, spent a decade at St. Mary’s School in North Vernon, and took a science position at Jennings County Middle School in 1997, where she spent the remainder of her career. She loved the ocean and spent many vacations at the beach collecting shells and reading. Her hobbies included antiquing, gardening, and playing cards. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Ron Hensley of North Vernon; son, Joel Hensley of North Vernon; daughters, Allie (Clark) Tyler and Carly Hensley of Columbus; sisters, Rayann Thompson and Nancy (Rob) Apsley of North Vernon and Sandra (Scott) Clark of Madison, brothers-in-law, Rick Williams of North Vernon and Craig Hensley of Columbus, and sisters-in-law, Crystal Hensley of North Vernon and Vicki Fitzgerald of Leesville, SC; mother-in-law, Leona Hensley; granddaughters, Winnie, Pru, and Goldie Tyler of Columbus; nieces and nephews, Emily, Zach, Joe, Caitlin (Cheaney), Amy (Shelby), Nicole (Eli), Adam, James, Maggie, Abbie (Kyron), Jacob, Cory, and Rylan.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Anna Margaret Mick; father-in-law, John Hensley; sister, Darlene Williams; brother-in-law, Eric Thompson; and sister-in-law, Gina Hensley.

Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to St. Mary’s School or Mercy Rescue.
