It’s last call to vote early

There are only two opportunities left to vote early in-person before Election Day on Tuesday.

Early in-person voting will be held today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Donner Center, 739 22nd St., and the Bartholomew County Government Office Building, 440 Third St.

Early in-person voting also will be Monday at Donner Center from 8 a.m. to noon.

After that, the polls will be closed until 6 a.m. on Election Day.

So far, just over 1 in 3 registered voters in the county have already cast their ballots for the upcoming presidential election.

A total of 19,120 Bartholomew County voters had voted as of the end of the day Thursday, or about 35.3% of registered voters, according to figure from the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Office.

A total of 17,147 local voters had voted early in-person and 1,973 people had voted absentee by mail as of Thursday. By comparison, 17,516 votes cast at the same point in the 2020 election.

Voting on Friday also got off to a fast start, with 124 people voting at Donner Center within the first 50 minutes the polls were open, according to Bartholomew County Clerk Shari Lentz.

“Early voting is still going at a rapid pace,” Lentz said.

As of Friday morning, there were still 400 absentee-by-mail ballots that had yet to be returned to election officials.

Lentz said at this point she would recommend voters who plan to vote absent by mail to drop off their ballots in person at the Bartholomew County Courthouse, 234 Washington St., in case there are any delays with the mail.

The deadline for election officials to receive absentee-by-mail ballots is 6 p.m. on Election Day.
