IU Columbus came close to notching its first men’s basketball win in program history Saturday, but came up a little short in a 76-70 loss against Cleary in Huntington’s Hall of Fame Classic.
Deonta Luster led the Crimson Pride (0-3) with 20 points, two assists and three steals. Damontae Thompson scored 14 points, and Gavin Dowling added nine points, nine rebounds and two assists.
Ben Sylva, a freshman from Columbus East, had six points and one assist. Owen Law, a sophomore from Jennings County, added five points and one assist.
Meanwhile, the IUC women fell 90-57 at Spring Arbor.
Jacelyn Starks came off the bench to lead the Crimson Pride (0-2) with 17 points and three steals. Amaya Collins scored 14 points, Abby Fleetwood had 12 points and Sydney Waldron added eight points and 10 rebounds.
The IUC men play at IU Indianapolis at 11 a.m. Monday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Crimson Pride women visit Union (Kentucky) on Tuesday.
